Undergraduate Research Ambassadors: Spring 2012
Profile:
Georgetown Undergraduate Research Ambassadors are a select group of highly accomplished students, most often juniors and seniors, who have participated extensively in academic research. Through their various interdisciplinary research experiences (e.g. through GUROP research, through individually directed research projects, as Raines recipients, via lab-based research positions, etc.), the Ambassadors have developed a highly desirable research-based skill set within their academic field. An Undergraduate Research Ambassador is exceedingly knowledgeable in regards to transcending the limits of the traditional curriculum by pursuing extracurricular, academic activities and is highly skilled in navigating research opportunities. Fully engaged in “the life of the mind,” an Ambassador is representative of the highest achieving, most intellectually ambitious Georgetown student.
Responsibilities:
Undergraduate Research Ambassadors are expected to attend at least two research opportunities events each academic term representing the Georgetown Office of Fellowships, Awards, and Research (GOFAR). At these events and/or informational sessions, an Ambassador is expected to share his/her research experience with attendees and to take an active part in answering questions relating to his/her research experiences. In addition to attending events, the Ambassador provides guidance to fellow Georgetown undergraduates regarding research opportunities, both on campus and beyond. Lastly, the Ambassador is required to attend two committee meetings per academic term.
Duration and Commitment Requirements:
The Ambassador appointment lasts one term (fall and spring terms only).
Research Resources events typically last 1-2 hours each. Including time spent counseling students in person and via e-mail, and participating in the committee meetings, the time commitment for the Undergraduate Research Ambassador is approximately 20-25 hours per academic term. Once selected, he/she may renew the appointment without having to reapply if all responsibilities have been satisfied.
Application Procedures:
To apply, please fill out an Undergraduate Research Ambassador application and submit the form along with your resume, if desired, to Lauren Tuckley, Research Resource Coordinator, at les58@georgetown.edu.
The application for Fall 2012 will be available later in the semester.
