Phi Beta Kappa members are selected annually by a panel of Georgetown chapter members on the basis of broad cultural interests, scholarly achievement, and good character. Juniors, in the top 2% of their class, and Seniors, in the top 10% of their class, who are enrolled in the School of Foreign Service, the College, and Health Studies majors in the School of Nursing and Health Studies are eligible candidates.  There is no application process on behalf of the recipient.  Transcripts will be reviewed and award notifications will be sent in April 2011.  The selection process is based on the criteria below.
 

 Review Criteria:

  • The candidate shall have completed at least three full semesters of work in residence at Georgetown University and be fully registered for the fourth semester;
  • For election as a junior, the candidate shall have completed at least 75 semester hours of regular college;
  • The candidate shall be majoring in liberal subjects and studies and be taking a course program expected to include not less than 90 semester hours of liberal work, exclusive of required courses in physical education and military science;
  • Students electing a combined curriculum in such fields as law, medicine, dentistry, or engineering may be considered if they have completed at least 90 semester hours of liberal work and have fulfilled at least half of the regular major and minor requirements for the bachelor's degree;
  • All candidates shall have completed satisfactorily in school or college, or in the two together, algebra through quadratics and plane geometry, and the equivalent of the intermediate college course in a foreign language;
  • Grades earned in applied or professional work shall not be counted in computing the GPA for purposes of eligibility. Applied and professional work shall be understood to include all training intended to develop skill or vocational techniques in such fields as business administration, education, radio.
