Beinecke Scholarship Program: Gervase Programs: Learning to Lead

Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship
• Superior academic record and ability (above or approaching 3.9)
• Evidence of need-based financial aid during undergraduate studies. The primary evidence of this is a student's history of receiving need-based institutional, state, or federal grants-in-aid. However, any student who has received any amount of need-based financial aid during their undergraduate years is eligible to be nominated. If you are not currently receiving need-based aid due to receipt of a merit award or tuition exchange, you must provide a statement from a financial-aid officer indicating how much need-based aid you would receive if you were not receiving support from the non-need-based source.

Georgetown University Application Process:

Submit the following items to the Office of University Fellowships:

• A completed Application Form.
• A Financial Data Sheet completed by a financial aid officer certifying that you qualify for need-based financial aid. (Hit refresh if this form doesn't load immediately. Please be sure to give the Financial Aid Office enough time to complete this sheet and either mail it to the Fellowship Office, or you can drop it off in hard copy.)
  
• 1,000 word personal statement describing your background, interests, plans for graduate study and career aspirations.  The statement should include a discussion of some experiences and ideas that have shaped those interests, plans and aspirations.
• Your current resume (up to 2 pages)
• An official transcript (be sure to request from this the Registrar's Office at least 2 weeks in advance to ensure that it reaches the Fellowships Office in time. You may have it mailed to the Gervase B-07 office, or drop it off yourself in the Registrar's signed sealed envelope.)
  
• Three letters of recommendation from faculty members that assess your academic strength, intellectual curiosity, and potential for advanced graduate study (these can be emailed for the internal endorsement process. If you are nominated, we will need these letters in hard copy).
  

The Financial Aid Data Sheet and the official transcript should be either dropped off, or mailed in hard copy to: Ms. Maryam Mohamed, Gervase B-07, Office of University Fellowships, Georgetown University, Washington, DC 20057. All other materials should be emailed directly to Ms. Maryam Mohamed. A University Committee will review the applications and nominate one candidate.

Georgetown University Endorsement Deadline: January 11, 2010 for the 2010-2011 award.
