Dom Bartkus
Dom Bartkus is a senior, majoring in International Politics in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. He is also pursuing the Russian & East European Studies certificate.
Dom Bartkus was born and raised in Kaunas, Lithuania. Personal experience has shaped his interest in international affairs and economics, especially in democracies and economies in transition. When he was born, Lithuania was still a part of the Soviet Union. After regaining their independence in 1990, Lithuania had to go through a challenging economic, political, and cultural transition, which is still affecting the daily life of many Lithuanians. After Dom and his family moved to the United States in 2001, the transition in Lithuania began taking a promising pathway. Nonetheless, the political system in Lithuania is still weak and strongly influenced by events taking place outside of Lithuania’s borders.
Dom Bartkus is a transfer student – he came to the Hilltop in the fall of 2007 from DePaul University in Chicago. Dom is very satisfied with the decision to come to the Hilltop because he finally feels being challenged to excel in academics.
Last year, Dom interned with the PBN Company, a public affairs firm focusing mainly on Russia and Eastern Europe, and was a Resident Assistant for first-year students at Darnall Hall.
After graduating Georgetown, Dom is planning on entering the political consulting field, which will most likely require him to settle in Washington, DC for a long time.
